--Basically, I have a PowerBI personal gateway setup on machine 1(Desktop), running good.
--I want to transfer the personal gateway to another machine. Machnie 2(Citrix VDI)
--Unable to perform this task.
--I have unstalled the gateway on machine 1 and machine 2. Tried to install on machine 2. No success.
--Installed on machine 1, SUCCESS. Once installed on machnine 1
--tried to install on machnie 2 (Citrix VDI) to takeover the gateway. The install goes ok, BUT when I go to sign in on the gateway on machine 2,(Citrix VDI) it signs me into machine 1. It's like it ONLY recognizes MACHNIE 1 as a valid gateway. FRUSTRATING.
In the past, the personal gateway on the (Citrix VDI) worked well. However, I had some recent technical issues and had to move the gateway to a desktop. All issues have been resolved now. However, the personal gateway connection is still an issue.
Please help. I don't want to keep managing 2 machnies. Thanks very much.

Hi @rftanner -uninstalling the gateway on Machine 1 (Desktop), make sure that all related services and components are completely removed. Sometimes remnants of the previous installation may cause conflicts.Remove Gateway Registration: After uninstalling, ensure the gateway is removed from the Power BI service. You can do this by going to the Manage Gateways section in the Power BI Service (online), selecting the gateway, and removing it.
Machine2: installing on Machine 2, choose the option to register a new gateway. This ensures that the installation isn't trying to take over an existing gateway that may be linked to Machine 1.Run the Installer with Administrator Privileges: Ensure that you are running the gateway installer as an administrator to avoid any permission issues.
If necessary, reconfigure any data source connections to use the new gateway on Machine 2. This can be done under the data source settings in the Power BI Service.
as you mentioned it is on VDI:
Citrix VDIs can sometimes have restrictions or specific configurations that may affect the installation or operation of services like the Power BI Gateway. Ensure that the VDI environment allows the gateway to run as a service, and that it has persistent storage and network access to required resources.after fresh installation on new vdi, restart the vdi too
Hope it helps.

Outstanding!!! That did it. I had to trace to some of the folders where the personal gateway was located on Computer 1. There were actually two folders related to the personal gateway. I uninstalled the gateway first On both computers. And then I went back to computer 1 And deleted the offending Folder that was showing up as another personal gateway. Once I did that, I reinstall the gateway on computer 2 And Logged into the gateway and it worked. It logged in successfully and was active. I updated a file in powrrbi service. SUCCESS! Thank you so much for your help. I am truly grateful.
