Can't embed PowerBi report into PowerPoint

I would like to embed the Power BI report into PowerPoint but keep failing. Regardless of what methods I used (embed via a link, add-in), it has shown the blank space as attached. I would like to have the live data on PowerPoint, so the copy as an image is not my option, please advise how to fix it.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve issues embedding a Power BI report into PowerPoint:

  1. Check Power BI Permissions:

    • Ensure you have appropriate permissions to view the Power BI report in the Power BI Service.
    • Verify that the report is shared with you if it's not your own.
  2. Verify Licensing Requirements:

    • Embedding live Power BI reports into PowerPoint requires a Power BI Pro or Premium Per User (PPU) license.
    • Ensure your Power BI workspace is in a Premium capacity if using PPU.
  3. Authenticate in the Add-in:

    • If using the Power BI Add-in for PowerPoint, confirm that you are signed in to the correct Power BI account with access to the report.
    • Re-authenticate and try re-embedding the report.
  4. Browser Compatibility:

    • Check that your default browser supports Power BI. Clear browser cache and cookies, or try another browser.
  5. Report URL Validation:

    • Ensure the URL used in the embed link is the correct report link from the Power BI Service, starting with https://app.powerbi.com/....
  6. Embed Settings:

    • Verify the report settings in Power BI. It should not be set to "private" or restricted to certain domains.
  7. Update Software:

    • Ensure PowerPoint and the Power BI Add-in are updated to the latest versions.
  8. Network/Firewall Issues:

    • Check if your organization’s firewall or network security is blocking Power BI Service. Try accessing the report outside the company network.

If the issue persists, log a support ticket with Microsoft for further assistance.

Please mark this as solution if it helps. Appreciate Kudos.

Hi,Tahreem24 and FarhanJeelani ,thanks for your concern about this issue.

Your answers are excellent!
And I would like to share some additional solutions below.

Hello,@Anonymous .I am glad to help you.
I hope my test below is helpful:

1. Power BI Service>Export to PowerPoint>Embed live data.
Copy the Report page link
The system generates a unique link (a link that does not change) for the current report page.
For different pages of the same report, they have different page links.

Copy the link
Insert the link

You can refresh the data by clicking the Refresh button in the bottom right corner.

You should be aware of the possible limitations of this feature.
Some users have summarized the following points in a similar “Power Point embedded in Power BI reports” issue:

The bottleneck is that the embedded reports are only updated about once an hour.
I use a semantic model, so the data is updated in the field, but report elements, slicers, layouts, etc. are not pushed until the next scheduled update. (Unless you create new embedded links).

Also note that the active slicer on the report will affect any embedded visual objects. If visual objects are not visible to shared slicers, filters applied from those slicers cannot be deactivated.

Thank you, everyone, it is the license we don't have, so I can't embed the report into Powerpoint.
