Hi @jimbobobwalker,

Just checking, have you had a chance to open a support ticket, as suggested. If so, we'd love to hear the current status or any updates from that.

If the issue was resolved through the support ticket, it would be great if you could share the solution here as well. It could really help other community members find answers more quickly.

Warm regards,
Prasanna Kumar

Looks like you're running into DirectQuery limitations - certain edits and transformations aren’t supported in that mode. Switching to Import or handling logic at the source (like with views) can help.

Hi @jimbobobwalker,

If the issue still persists, I’d recommend raising a support ticket with Microsoft. The support team can look into the backend and provide more in-depth assistance tailored to your environment.

Collegue sent me this, not sure where he got it, but if true, seems like no. 2 is my issue:

What's Changed in the September 2025 Update

1. Live Editing of Semantic Models Is Now Default

  • Power BI now supports live editing of Direct Lake semantic models directly in Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service.
  • This means traditional DirectQuery workflows are being replaced or merged into Direct Lake and semantic model editing, which changes how queries are accessed and modified.

    2. Editing Restrictions for Legacy DirectQuery Models

    • Some older DirectQuery models may now be read-only unless converted to the new semantic format.
    • If your model wasn’t migrated, you might see restrictions like:
      • “We could not detect the data source information for this table.”
      • No access to Power Query or query folding options.

        3. Push Toward Cloud-Based Editing

        • Microsoft is shifting Power BI toward cloud-first workflows, including Power Query editing in the Power BI Service3.
        • This means some editing features are now workspace-dependent or require semantic model conversion to unlock full functionality.

@jimbobobwalker Check which version you are on. Microsoft just updated the Desktop to the September release so perhaps a bug was introduced? You can check this by going to File then Options and settings, Options and then Diagnostics.
