Can't delete measure
Hi all,
For some reason I can't delete a measure. I get the following error:
Release:
November 2025
Product Version:
2.149.1252.0 (25.11)+f8814957f64d1b6cd97c6569b42976bdf41b2074 (x64)
Error Message:
An unexpected error occurred (file 'TMSavePointValidation.cpp', line 422, function 'TMSavePoint::VerifyProxyCreationAllowed').
An unexpected error occurred (file 'TMSavePointValidation.cpp', line 422, function 'TMSavePoint::VerifyProxyCreationAllowed').
The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed.
An unexpected error occurred (file 'TMSavePointValidation.cpp', line 422, function 'TMSavePoint::VerifyProxyCreationAllowed').
Is there a way to delete a measure using TMDL?
I am reluctantly using November 2025 (had to upgrade to work around another bug).
Cheers,
Ben

Hey bhalicki ,
This error is actually a known regression in the November 2025 Desktop release. Several users have reported failures when deleting measures or columns due to a validation bug in the internal save-point engine — which is why you're seeing: TMSavePointValidation.cpp, line 422 VerifyProxyCreationAllowed
Workarounds
1) Delete the measure using TMDL: If your model is stored in the new TMDL folder format:
-
Enable TMDL folder format
File → Options → Preview → “Store semantic model using TMDL folder format”
Reference: Microsoft Docs – TMDL Overview -
In the exported TMDL folder, go to
\SemanticModel\Tables\[TableName]\measures.json -
Remove the object representing your measure.
-
Save → reopen Power BI Desktop.
2) Use Model View: Deleting via Model view → Properties pane sometimes bypasses the save-point bug.
3) Tabular Editor 2 (Free Version): The Tabular Editor 2 is completely free and fully supports deleting measures. Once installed:
-
Open your PBIX → External Tools → Tabular Editor
-
Locate the measure
-
Delete → Save
This bypasses the broken savepoint logic in Desktop.
Reference: Tabular Editor 2 is free & open source
4) Delete the measure using TMDL
If you are using the TMDL folder format:
-
Export to TMDL
-
Open: SemanticModel\Tables\[TableName]\measures.json
-
Remove the measure object
-
Save and reopen PBIX

This strongly suggests a regression in the November 2025 build. Rolling back to October 2025 resolves the problem for most users, but may not be an option if you upgraded for another bug fix.

Thanks all. Microsoft if you are listening, the performance of November 2025 is also abysmal.

FYI it is still an issue with October 2025 edition.

Hi bhalicki ,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.
Could you please update your Desktop to the latest version and check again. There is no issue with deleting a measure in the current release, and updating often resolves version specific errors. If you install Power BI Desktop from the Microsoft Store, you will always receive the latest version and future updates will be applied automatically.
Please update and reach out if the issue still occurs.
Thank you.
