Can't connect to Salesforce.com
The underlying cause of the problem is MS PBI uses IE11 for authentication and SFDC lightening has stopped supporting IE11.
MS Support provided me with following solution and it worked for me.To resolve this issue do the following.
- Make sure you are using PBI Desktop downloaded from the MS Download Center and NOT the MS Store App
- In Registry Editor location\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION from decimal 11000 to 7000
Hi BILearner
For anyone landing here in 2026, the registry hack worked when Power BI Desktop relied on IE11, but Microsoft retired IE in 2022 and Power BI Desktop now uses WebView2 (Edge engine). So the hack no longer applies, and the fix today is: update Power BI Desktop and install/update WebView2 Runtime (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/).
If you still hit browser-related auth issues (or want to skip the embedded browser path entirely), Power BI Connector for Salesforce on AppExchange is one alternative:
Why it might fit:
- Installed inside your Salesforce org - bypasses Power BI Desktop's embedded browser auth flow entirely
- No 2,000-row limit - pulls full Salesforce reports as-is
- Supports custom fields, custom objects, and joined reports
- 30-day free trial, no credit card needed
