Can't connect to Azure Database
I'm trying to connect Power BI Desktop to our Azure Database (v12) but it will not. I get the following error:
Details: "Microsoft SQL: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"
I get this error after I enter the name of the database server and before I get an opportunity to give it credentials.
I'm able to connect the database with SSMS and other apps. So, I'm fairly certain the problem is isolated to Power BI.

I apologize. Moron move on my end. I had an error in my server name and kept copy & pasting it all morning without realizing the typo. DOH!

Is the IP address of the machine you have Power BI Desktop on allowed in the firewall settings for the Azure Database?
Is this Azure SQL DB or is this IaaS of SQL Server in Azure?

I am sorry to reactivate this old topic. However, I would like to know if there is a way to access azure sql database via power bi, in a production environment, where I can not set up a firewall rule.
So far, I've found only via firewall rule.
