Hello,
I made a visual using a ribbon chart. However, when i try to change the colors of the data series, PowerBI would not let me, as the color selection dropdown is disabled (i.e., greyed out). Not sure why this issue only applies to the ribbon chart as I'm able to change colors for my other visuals like pie charts and word clouds. Any tips on how to rectify this would be greaty appreciated.
Thanks 😃

Which section did you try? There should be an option to change the legend color from the columns settings

yes i overlooked this. i thought the only option available was for the "ribbon". thanks!
This usually happens in a Ribbon Chart when the series colors are being controlled automatically by the legend/category or conditional formatting, which disables the manual color picker.
A few things to check:
Ribbon charts often control colors through the Legend field. Try:
This should expose individual series colors.
2. Remove/Re-add the Legend field
Sometimes the visual gets stuck:
Then check if the color dropdown becomes enabled
3. Check Theme settings
If a report theme is applied, colors may be locked by the theme:
Try switching temporarily to a default theme and test again
4. Try resetting the visual
Sometimes formatting metadata gets corrupted:
Add the same fields back
5. Known limitation of Ribbon Chart
Unlike pie or bar charts, Ribbon Charts have some formatting limitations in Power BI, and in some cases manual series color editing is restricted depending on how the categories/legend are configured.
If possible, could you share a screenshot of:
That would help identify the exact cause.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
If you need full manual control, remove the Legend field and put your category directly in the values, then the standard color options unlock.
Hi @rogelep - Ribbon Charts should normally allow color customization through Format - Data colors. If the color selector is greyed out, check whether conditional formatting (fx) is enabled, whether the visual uses a dynamic legend/field parameter, or whether a report theme is controlling colors.
Also verify that a Legend field is present, since Ribbon Charts assign colors by legend category. If none of these apply, test with a simple Ribbon Chart in a new PBIX file and ensure you're running the latest Power BI Desktop version, as some Ribbon Chart formatting limitations have been reported in certain releases
Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center
Hope this helps.
