Can't add field to scatterplot legend - it won't "take" - help?

I've got a scatter made with measures on the 2 axes. I can add a field to Details to break out the data points, but I want them in Legend. When I drag the field to Legend, it doesn't "take" - it just disappears.

Same for dragging a field to the Play Axis - no fields will stay in there.

I assume I'm missing something easy - what is it?

Did you try to add a measure to the Legend? If so, I'm afraid we can't do that for now. If not, please provide your file. It seems good in my test.
