Can I create new measures when connected to a MS-SSAS Cube with Live connection?

Hello Everyone,

I have a model which connects to a MS-SSAS cube.  Not sure what specific type of cube it is.
I need to create new measures but when I attempt to do so, I do not get the formula bar to enter the DAX measure code.

Because the ribbon and context menu on the data pane show me "New Measure", I assume that this is permissible, but the formula bar never appears.
When I go with either method of creating the new measure, "Measure/MLeasure1/Measure2..." show up on the data pane, but I never get a formula bar.

Can anyone help me understand how to do this?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Hi @Anonymous

This is a known issue if your desktop version is in November 2023 release, and has been fixed in the December 2023 release. Please update to the December 2023 release or rollback to the October 2023 release.

You can get the October 2023 release of desktop from the following document: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/desktop-latest-update-archive?tabs=powerbi-d...

Hey @Anonymous ,

currently, I'm able to connect live to an SQL Server Analysis database, and I'm able to create measures.

One database is a

  • Power BI Semantic Model, running on Premium Per User capacity, the 2nd database is a
  • Azure Analyis Services database

I'm 100% sure that creating measures from within Power BI Desktop against an on-premises SQL Server Analysis Seervices Tabular (SQL Server 2016 onwards) database is possible as well.
Unfortunately, I can not test this, because I'm on vacation.

I'm not sure about SSAS Multidimensional instances, I think this is also possible, but requires a specific version.

If you have a Tabular instance and it does not work, I recommend raising a support ticket as this video from 2017 explains how it should work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yezgr3QN9hw

Hopefully, this helps to tackle your challenge.

Regards,

Tom
