Calculated Column Issue

Hi,

I'm trying to create a calculated column but when i press Alt + Enter to go onto the next line I'm seeing

these characters in black appear (see below). This has never happened before.

Can someone explain why this happening and how to stop it please?

Those are keyboard shortcuts. Try using Shift+Enter to go to the next line instead.

I'll do that from now on but heaven knows why its started to produce these Keyboard Shortcuts all of the sudden?
