I am trying to use the new Buttons feature that is available in the April 2018 version of Power BI Desktop. However, I have an on-prem Power BI Report Server so I have been using "Power BI Desktop optimized for Power BI Report Server". The latest version of this installer seems to be March 2018. Why are the feature sets and release dates out of sync with the different flavours of Power BI Desktop? Are there any plans to bring the software to just one version? What other features am I missing with the PBIRS optimized version? It is quite frustrating to not have all features available.

After posting I found some more info in this article Understanding the differences between “Power BI Desktop” and “Power BI Desktop Optimized for Power B.... It covers some of my questions and I thought I'd post the link in case it helps others.
I would still be interested in hearing what Microsoft and others have to say on the differences.
