Button to refresh dataset only working for me

Hi!

I have a button on my dashboard to refresh the dataset for the visual.

However, when other people click on the button on the published visual they get this unsuccessful message with no further information

I think it may be related to permissions, but ive not had any success with my trials so far...

Can anyone suggest where im going wrong?

Thank you

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I found the solution, you need to add the users you want to be able to run the flow to the "run" section, or make them owners.  There are 2 ways to do this

Option 1: go to https://make.powerautomate.com/ and sign in.

click on "My flows" in the column on the left most side of the page
Check under all 3 flows tabs to find the flow you want to change, "Cloud flows", "Desktop flows", "Shared with me" -->(mine was under this one)

On the right side of the page, after you've selected the flow, you should see "Owners" and also "Run only users"

Add the users that you want to be able to control this into either section. "Run only" is probably the one you want because then nobody can make changes, only run it.  That should be all you have to do.

Option 2:  In Power BI desktop, click on the button and click the "..." in the upper right, then click "edit"

Click on the flow you wish to change.  This page will essentially be the same as going to powerautomate.com, and on the right-hand side you'll see the options to add owners and run-only users.  Make your changes here and re-upload the whole BI to make sure it commits.

Any users you add will be sent an email that they've been added to the flow's permissions, they may have to click on the link in the email they get to verify their identity, which just involves them logging in.  After all that, it should work.

I am having the exact same issue, and even more odd is the fact that I don't own the dataset or the BI report itself, but I uploaded it.

Hi Mate,

have you used this button before and seen it work ffor others?

My first time using it so i cant tell if ive done somethign fundamentally wrong...

If any one has any advice with this i would still appreciate it

Thanks!

@Josh1994 , what is the action on this button? I doubt refresh action. Power bi service already provides a refresh button by default
