Building a Gantt Chart focused on Resources

Hello! I am working on building a gantt chart that is more focused on Resources than Projects. That may sound strange but here is a picture of what I am looking for:

The idea is, I don't care about tasks and how many people have. I am more focused on when can we get the next project scheduled. I would like to be able to have my resources on the left side and then have all the projects they are a part of the view in the Gantt style.

The problem that I am running into is when I pull my data into PowerBI my 'resource' column has multiple names so I can't combine the projects that just 'Adam' is a part of.

What I have done:

  • I am using the Microsoft Gantt Template
  • I have separated out the resources column by the comma and created a new column per resource
    • The problem with this, I can't seem to add 10+ resource columns to one data field in powerbi... (ignore the 'task' title that is how I am able to get the resources on the right hand side)
    • mgwarren94_1-1648182860048.png

Questions:

  • What is the best way to separate the resource column?
  • Will separating that column out work for what I am looking to do?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Duplicate values won't show in a slicer visual. Please check for spaces, etc. that cause the two to not be exactly the same.

Unfortunately, that does not solve my problem.

See the screenshot below. When I select both Adams, I get all of the projects that he is a resource on. But if I select one of the names, I get different information... see screen shot #2

Update. I am almost there. I ended up splitting the 'resources' column into ROWs and not COLUMNs. This 'worked' and is working for what I need it to do. It is not pretty.

New problem. Because of this, I know how duplicated ID numbers. I added a slicer that pulls the resources column but I see multiple of the same resource name when I go to select the resource.  Different information shows in the gantt chart depending on which First Last name I select.

It looks like this:

  • Resources
    • Bob Smith
    • Johnny Apple
    • Zeke Iron
    • Bob Smith

Question:

  • How do I remove those duplicates but still get the information that is needed in the Gantt Chart?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Please turn on "Group Tasks" option.
