Hello everyone,
I'm facing a visual issue with the Line chart when using Small multiples.
When I click on the visual, the first row of the small multiple loses:
- y and secondary y axis title and values
- grids in the background
When does it happen:
- In formatting settings > Y-Axis > Range
- Deactivate Shared y-axis
- Click out of the visual and the graphic elements will disappear
Tested on this Power BI version:
- 2.146.705.0
You can reproduce the bug with this sample dataset:

Are you facing the same issue?
Thank I hope it will be corrected
Hi PaulEq,
Thank you for the update.
While we await the backend engineering team's resolution of the rendering bug, kindly use a temporary alternative where possible, such as setting Shared Y-axis = On, which prevents the inner axes from disappearing. As this behaviour has already been logged in the issues forum, a sufficient number of user votes will help the product team assess the impact and prioritise a fix.
Should you have any further queries, please feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.
Thank you.
Hi PaulEq,
We are following up to see if what we shared solved your issue. If you need more support, please reach out to the Microsoft Fabric community.
Thank you.
Hi PaulEq,
We are following up to check if you have got a chance to review the response provided by @kushanNa to resolve the issue. We hope the information provided helps to solve the problem. Should you have any further queries, kindly feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.
Thank you.
Hello
I reproduced the solution proposed by @kushanNa and it solves the issue but for less that 4 small multiples. Once we have more than 4 there is an overflow between the 2 visuals that is not possible to offer to users
Thank you
Thankyou, @kushanNa, for your response.
Hi PaulEq,
We appreciate your inquiry on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
We reproduced the scenario using the provided sample dataset. With Shared Y-axis set to Off, Power BI declutters the view by hiding inner tile axes and gridlines when a visual is not focused; axes are retained only on the outer edges. To address this, a possible workaround is to enable Shared Y-axis.
Please find the screenshots attached below for reference:
1.When Visual is focussed:
2.When Visual is not focussed:
Additionally, please refer to the following thread on the Issues forum, where community members have reported axes or gridlines disappearing on small multiple charts after interactions or when they lose focus, symptoms that match this behaviour:
BUG: Y-Axis and grid lines dissapear in first smal... - Microsoft Fabric Community
We hope this information helps to resolve the issue. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.
Thank you.
Hello and thank you for your answer.
In my case it seems that the issue also occurs when the visual in focusssed again. I mean, once it has been unfocussed the inner tile axis and gridlines disappear, but it doesn't appear back when the visual is on focus.
And I aggree with the workaround solution but in case the scales of the small multiples are different we need to activate the Shared y-Axis to activate the Scale to fit option otherwise the y-axis scale will be the one of the series that has the biggest range...
Yes as you can see there is no longer y values/title and grid in the background
Sorry, I didn’t catch that earlier.
Since @v-pnaroju-msft pointed out this is a known issue, I believe the Power BI developers will address it.
Meanwhile, try this workaround until Microsoft provides a permanent solution, and see if it works for you?
Decide where you want to place the visual and set the size.
Add the values to the fields.
Create a copy of the visual and bring that visual to the front.
Click on the border of the bottom visual, go to settings, and set both line colors to white.
Remove the background of the top visual and place it on top of the bottom visual.
Looks like the temporary workaround is working for me in this test environment, but you never know—once it’s added into real dashboards, different challenges might occur 😅. Try it out and let us know how it goes.
I’ve attached the sample I created.
Hello Kushan
Interinsting workaround but once we have more than 4 categories the 2 visuals overflow and as you mentionned into real dashboards it's another challenge
Thank you for your help
