Browser not supported when trying to connect to a data source on Sharepoint

Hello,

This used to work fine for me but now it is not.  In PowerBI Desktop, I am unable to connect to my data source that is an Excel file on Sharepoint. When I try connecting using Organizationl Account then I select Sign In then I get a popup to select my account. I select my account where it says "Connected to Windows" below my org email, then I get a popup saying "Browser not Supported". I tried to clear permissions in the Options and Settings ->Data Source Settings, then re-opened, I get the same error. I did the same for both "Data Sources in current file" or "Global Permissions". I also ticked the box that says "Use my defult web browser" under Options ->Security ->Authentication Browser and still doesn help.

I found the issue. For some reason the path to the file on Sharepoint was no longer valid eventhough it worked fine before. The fix was that I removed ":x\:r" from the file path name in the PowerBI query and it worked fine after.

Hi @amismail ,

This is often a browsser/webview/windows account mismatch issue.

The solution should be to sully sign our of Power BI Desktop, then close Power BI Desktop.  Then reopen it and try again.

If that doesn't do the trick then you can sign out and close again AND clear the MIcrosoft Authentication Cache - not just the way you indicated that you are already doing it but also delete this folder entirely:
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\TokenCache

If all of that doesn't work, then you may need to repair your WebView2 as well.  Go to windows -apps and features, find the "Microsoft Edge Webview2 Runtime" and select Modify and then Repair.  Then, full windows restart.  And, try again.

Let us know if any of those resolved the issue!

Thanks for the tips. I tried Log in then out, also deleting the Cache. Didn't work. As for the Microsoft Edge Webview2 Runtime, I couldn't find it anywhere. I even tried repairing Edge and reinstalling Power BI. Issue still persist.

Hi @amismail,

Thank you @collinq, for ypur insights,

Since you’ve already cleared the Power BI cache, signed out and back in, repaired Edge, and reinstalled Power BI, the next thing to check is Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Power BI Desktop relies on WebView2 to display the Organizational account sign-in window. If WebView2 is missing or corrupted, you might see errors like “Browser not supported.” Try installing WebView2 from Microsoft, restart Windows, and then attempt to sign in again from Power BI Desktop.
