Behaviour of slicers hierarchy when apply All Slicers button exists

Hi All,

I have a hierarchy of slicers on my report. I expect each one to filter the next ones.

In order to improve the overall performance of the report, and even tenant, I'm considering to add the Apply All Slicers button.

Upon testing it, i found out that when selecting a value in one of the slicers, the other slicers are not updating until I click on the button.

Is this the way it was designed? If so, it seems really inconvenient UX-wise when we want slicers to affect each other like in my case...

To me, It would seem much more logical to have a separation in behaviour between slicers and other visuals on the page.

Slicers should always affect each other  immediately, while visuals should be dependent on the button...

Thank you

Hi @excelrati,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

  •  When the "Apply All Slicers" button is enabled, slicer selections do not update other slicers or visuals until the button is clicked.

  • The purpose of this feature is to improve report performance, especially in reports with large datasets or multiple cross-filtered slicers.

  • However, this limits interactivity between slicers, which can be inconvenient in scenarios where hierarchical filtering is expected.

  • As a workaround, we recommend not using the "Apply All Slicers" feature when slicer-to-slicer interaction is important.

  • Instead, allow slicers to interact in real-time and consider applying performance optimizations such as:

    • Reducing the complexity of visuals on the page

    • Using summary or aggregated data where possible

    • Limiting the number of visuals on a single report page

  • Alternatively, move less frequently used slicers to a separate filter pane or report page, and use synced slicers to maintain consistency across pages.

  • We will continue to explore optimizations that balance both performance and usability, and keep you informed of any relevant updates from Microsoft.

Thank you for the explanation.

I won't be able to use it then.

One related feature i saw in other BI Tools, is having the Apply button on each slicer

I hope PowerBI will have it as well in some time, as it will also improve the report performance.
