Basic Question - How to Display Datetime Field as Date and Time Similar to SQL Server
Hello All -
I'm new to PowerBI and really annoyed here at this moment. I have a datetime field coming in from SQL Server, I want this field to display as date/time in PowerBI just as it does in SQL Server. However, when I add the field to the visualzation, it returns, quarter, year, month, day, etc. So in other words, it will be like this - Quarter 1, February, 2022, etc. I don't want that. Honestly, that's stupid, whey does it even default to that? I'm having a very hard time getting this field to just display as something like 2022-02-03 03:00:00, etc. I've been reading and watching videos and nothing i've tried works. I've selected the field and changed the format under Column Tools, but it doesn't stick, it keeps reverting back to the same old BS.
What gives, man? This is such a simple thing and Microsoft has to make this so overly-complicated. Can someone just give me an answer here so I can move on?
Ugh, so frustrating, LOL.
Anyone?
Hi Anonymous
Try this, change the setting to Date,
If you don't need date hierarchy, you can go to Options and close that function, then date column won't have date hierarchy when you create a new file,

First you'll want to turn off Auto Date/Time in the File/Options & Settings/Options in Data Load section for local file (and turn if off in general too to that future files start with it off).
Then you can choose from the dropdown in Column Tools (when you select a column in data view) or Measure Tools when you select a measure. Here is a screen grab of some of the options.
If none of those, you can easily create your own with a custom format string like in Excel.
