Bar Graph - 2 Different Categories

Hi,

I'm trying to replicate the below report, from Excel into BI so that I can have it refresh instead of manually adding data.

This is what I have been able to do so far (not quite what I'm trying to achieve):

The first screen shot from BI, is good but I need to seperate another category which is a status of open and closed. Since I have 4 categories per month (observation ,minor, major, and ciritical), I'd like these to be shown all in one bar but have the 2nd category of open/closed, showing two bars each month.

I can't find anywhere to put the second category on the first screen shot (putting the status into the "Shared Axis" area doesn't do anything) and I don't like the small multiples on the second screenshot.

Can anyone help me replicate

Bit confusing ! Do you want keep the open close as a total ? because the excel snapshot is showing so! can you draw some picture to show what is final out come or confirm that Excel one where both open close are together

  • Don't need the total, just seperated out as open and closed. If I need the total I can do so with a different visual.

    If I understood you correctly,

You want to compare the Open and Close with the same x axis on the same graph.

    With this,

You can put the Open Close Category on the axis and play with the heirarchy until you achieve what you need.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

  • Hi Kmcdonald ,

Here, is a 100 % Stacked Clustered Column Chart where you can put two different values (e.g: Open and Close) and also add category on legend for the stacks. You can change 100% to only stacked columns by selecting - under visual attributes > Bar Chart > All > From (None, Percent, Fraction) select None. Hope this helps you.

Download link for the custom visual file on this page,

    https://pbivizedit.com/gallery/100stacked-clustered-column-chart

This was made with our Custom Visual creator tool PBIVizEdit.com. With this tool,

    • anyone, irrespective of technical skills, can create their visuals
    • 15 minutes to create a visual from scratch
    • opens up many additional attributes to edit (e.g. labels, tooltips, legends position, etc)

Give this a shot and let us know if you face any problems/errors.
You can use the editor to modify your visual further (some modifications cannot be done in the Power BI window and have to be in the editor).

    Thanks,
