In PowerBI Desktop I have a report with various Azure maps. In the last few days I get an error that I should get permssion from my tenant to display data in those maps. However nothing has changed, I checked the permissions to use the Azure maps and they are still enabled. The strange thing is that if I publish the report then I can see the maps without problems online.
Anyone has experienced the same issue or can give me advice on how to solve it?
Thank you!
Edoardo
Hi @dodomolinari , I may suggest to check the version of your Power BI desktop. As there have been new updates in Azure maps any version before April 2025 may cause error, as mentioned on Blog post by microsoft.
To check the desktop version please see the below steps:
Help> About
Or File > About
Please Refer the Blog post below
If you have any version before than this you may update your version and this may help to resolve the issue.
Hope it help! Please mark it as a solution if this helped. ^_^

Users can use the Azure Maps visual. | When this setting is on, users will be able to create and view the Azure Map visual.
Note: This does not control whether data is able to leave your region/compliance boundary for mapping purposes. |
On by default, except for existing tenants that have explicitly turned Azure Maps off |
Data sent to Azure Maps can be processed outside your tenant’s geographic region, compliance boundary, or national cloud instance. | Azure Maps services are currently not available in all regions and geographies. With this setting on, data sent to Azure Maps can be processed in a region where the service is available, which might be outside your tenant’s geographic region, compliance boundary, or national cloud instance. | Off by default, except for existing tenants that have turned Azure Maps on |
Data sent to Azure Maps can be processed by Microsoft Online Services Sub processors. | Some Azure Maps visual services, including the selection tool, may require mapping capabilities provided in part by Microsoft Online Services sub processors. This setting will control the availability of these features. | Off by default, except for existing tenants that have turned Azure Maps on |
I hope you enabled the necessary settings under tenant admin portal, after enabling it will take around 15 mins for it reflect

I tried what you suggested @rajendraongole1 but unfortunately I still have the same issue... Any more help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi @dodomolinari -can please check with your Power BI administrator whether any recent policy changes have restricted Azure Maps access under:Power BI Admin Portal → Tenant settings → Map and Filled Map visuals. or try logging in with a different organizational account (if available) to rule out account-level issues.
I hope this helps. please check.

I am the administrator and all the permissions are set correctly unfortunately. I can see the maps in PowerBI online but not in the desktop version.
Hi @dodomolinari - Can you please check the caching issues in Power BI Desktop if any clear the cache and then do the following
Go to the top right corner > Sign out >>Close Power BI Desktop>> Reopen and sign in again
This refreshes your authentication token and helps in many cases. Check this option once.
