Hello,
I am developing a dashboard that includes a map and I am using an Azure Map visual to show the state counties by color (similar to a filled map).
The data is loaded in the map but there are only a few times when the map actually shows something.
Most of the times I see a blank box or even the same blank box with the microsoft logo at the bottom right corner but nothing more.
Very few times the map works but when I close the file and reopen it, then it shows again the blank box.
Additionally, when I try to change the default style in the map settings area, I select a different one but it doesn't change.
Is averyone having the same issue? or is a configuration/connection problem from my side?
Hi @smlewisv - The issue you’re describing with Azure Map visuals in Power BI (intermittently loading or showing a blank box) could arise due to a combination of factors such as connectivity, data configuration, or browser settings.
Azure Maps requires an active internet connection to render the maps.
Ensure your firewall or network settings are not blocking the connection to Azure Maps services.
Test your connection to Azure Maps endpoints:
Check if domains like atlas.microsoft.com are accessible.
2. Verify Data Configuration
Geographic Data: Ensure your location data (e.g., state, county names) is clean, consistent, and properly mapped to Azure Maps.
Counties or regions require precise names.
Use standard geographic data formats (e.g., “Calhoun-AL” for county-state).
Data Type: Ensure that the data type for the location column is set to Geography or Text in Power BI.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be worth testing with another map visual (like the Filled Map or ArcGIS Maps) to confirm if the problem is specific to Azure Maps.
