I have a report that contains an Azure Maps visual and a table visual. Prior to the introduction of markers in Jan 2026 update, I enabled the map selection tools which allowed user to draw a shape on the map, an it filtered the table visual...worked perfectly.
If I change the marker icon from the original circle to any other icon type e.g. building or car, the map selection tools stop working - I can still draw a shape, but doing so does not filter in the same way as circles.
Surely this cannot be an intented limitation...hoping that it's some other setting that I'm overlooking.

Hi @rhorton,
I understand the disappointment, especially when a new enhancement affects features that worked well before. As super user said, this seems to be a current limitation rather than a configuration issue.
Workarounds:
Keep using circle markers, which can be styled to be smaller or less prominent if needed
Use slicers or other visuals for filtering when icon markers are needed
In some cases, enabling a bubble layer alongside icons can help maintain selection behavior
We know this affects usability, and your feedback helps improve the visual. If you can, please submit this through the Power BI Ideas portal so the product team can track it.

Thank you.
Hey! I don’t think you’re missing a setting... this looks like a current limitation with the Azure Maps visual after the marker update. From what I can see, the selection tools still work properly when using the default circle markers, but when you switch to icon markers (like building, car, etc.), the selection shape can still be drawn but it no longer filters the other visuals. It seems like the selection logic is only being applied to the bubble layer and not the symbol/icon layer right now. As a workaround, we could keep circles (even styled very small or subtle) for selection purposes, or temporarily rely on another filtering method. Hopefully this gets addressed in a future update.
Hope that help!
Regards!
Thanks for confirming it's not a "me" issue!
Such a shame to have to ignore new functionality because it removes prior functionality!
