Automated Installation Help and/or Link To Old Versions

Hi folks,

We are running PBI "Desktop" in a corporate, locked down, Windows 10 environment (the majority of workstations are 1909, only a handful are newer or older). This means our users do not have elevated rights; that is, they cannot install software themselves, nor do we allow access to the Windows Store.

We use Configuration Manager (aka SCCM, ConfigMgr) to install PBI "Desktop" and the vast majority of our other software. The current pushed / installed version of PBI we are using is 2.70.5494.701. Now though, it has been requested that we install the most recent version. Thus, we have scripted the following to install v2.88.1385.0 and it works a treat. Please note: the previous version is uninstalled first!

start /wait msiexec.exe /i PBIDesktop-32bit.msi -quiet -promptrestart -log "C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\APP_PowerBIDesktop_32-2.88.1385.0-install.log" ACCEPT_EULA=1 ENABLECXP=0 INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0 REG_SHOWLEADGENDIALOG=0 DISABLE_UPDATE_NOTIFICATION=1

The issue is, when this is pushed / installed via Configuration Manager, the PBI splash screen displays and then after 20/30 seconds or less, PBI shuts down, usually after consuming the 4gig of RAM it is allowed to - in case of the 32bit version, the 64bit versions chews up what is available.

So, is there a link to the previous-to-the-most-recent version I can download somewhere to test with please (all links I have found are either dead or re-direct to the current version) or does someone have some idea as to what might be going on here ??

We use the extracted MSI from the EXE as directed by this MS doco.

Manually installing with a LocalAdmin account and running under same account works.

Manually installing with a LocalAdmin account and running with regular account presents same issue as automatically installing with Configuration Manager.

Kind regards,
Dodgy Bob

Right, so previous version worked a treat; v2.87.1061

I did notice that the PBI team have released another version though today, 2.88.1682, so I'll go and play with it and see if it works.

Not sure what was wrong with 2.88.1385, but it just didn't want to play.

Right, off I go then!

My apologies to all, I actually found the links to the old versions of PBI!!

After reading >> this << page which directed me to >> this << page - which I had been to before - I finally found the links for the previous versions!

Turns out I just simply wasn't looking hard enough previously  🙄

The links all just blurred into one another on that page when I was looking at it initially, but you can find them actually located between the Update Video and the heading of the next old version - doh!

Again my apologies folks.

Now, let's hope this does the trick !? !?
