Has anyone encountered issue with Aug 2018 Desktop version that unable to recognize the excel file?
After I update to the Aug 2018 Desktop and I've encoutered one of my current Pbix file unable to recognize the one of the source Excel file with the following error message "The input couldn't be recognized as valid Excel document.
My colleagues who uses the earlier version doesn't has this problem with the same source Excel file. Thus I did a uninstall to Aug 2018 version and re-install the Jul 2018 Desktop version and was able of import the same Excel file.
Thanks you.

Hi @NH,
It seems that you only have this issue for the specific excel data source?
I haven't encountered issue as yours until now.
If it is convenient, could you share the specific excel sheet so that I could make a test.
In addition, you could have a reference of these similar threads.
Best Regards,
Cherry

I have the same problem. At least since the August update a PBI file with an excel file on sharepoint as datasource can't be refreshed in PBI Desktop (with the same error message). The refresh in the power bi service does work though.. Do you have an update on the issue?
Thanks! Jasper
Hi Cherry,
Thanks for you replied. Sorry I'm not able to share the source file. But I went to read out the below link regard to hyperlink in Excel file may cause BI unable to open the excel file issue. And I go ahead to remove the hyperlink in the excel file and it manage to resolve the issue. But I'm not able to duplicate the problem by adding back the hyperlink in the Exce file. Strange.
Thank you.
