Assistance with Enabling Managed Identities for Power BI Integration

Hi Team,

I would like to display my Application Insights data in a Power BI report. For this, I need to enable Managed Identities. Currently, I am using the "Premium Per User" license, but I do not see the option to use Managed Identities.

Could you please advise if I need to upgrade my license, or if I can proceed with the current version? If the current version supports this, kindly provide the steps to enable Managed Identities.

Alternatively, if an upgrade is required, could you please explain the associated costs?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Sunit Kumar

Hi @v-tangjie-msft
We have the Power BI service configured on msit.powerbi.com, and I am able to access it successfully. However, we need to display Application Insights data in Power BI reports using Managed Identities.

To do this, we need to make some changes in both the Admin and Tenant settings. Unfortunately, we do not see the option for Tenant settings in our current setup.

Could you kindly advise how we can resolve this and make the necessary changes?

Hi @v-sunitkumar ,

Licensing: PPU supports Managed Identities for dataflows. No upgrade is needed.

Workspace Requirement: Ensure your Power BI workspace is in a Premium capacity (PPU qualifies).

Azure Permissions: Grant the Power BI Managed Identity access to your Application Insights resource in Azure.

Thanks for the reply. I followed the same steps suggested in the workspace settings. It shows the current license as Premium per-user.But we dont have the option Tenant setting . Please suggest how we fix this.
