Assistance with Dynamic Button Interactions in Power BI

Hello Power BI Community,

  1. Buttons:

    Primary Category Buttons:
    • "Incumbent"
    • "New Business"
  • Secondary Category Buttons:
  • "Direct Renewal"
  • "RFP Renewal"
  1. Charts:

    • Chart 1: Incumbent + Direct Renewal
    • Chart 2: Incumbent + RFP Renewal
    • Chart 3: New Business + Direct Renewal
    • Chart 4: New Business + RFP Renewal

Desired Functionality:

  • Default View:
    When the dashboard loads, the Incumbent + Direct Renewal chart should display by default.

  • Button Toggles:

    • At any point, one button from the Primary Category (Incumbent/New Business) and one button from the Secondary Category (Direct/RFP Renewal) should always be active.
    • For example, if "Incumbent" and "Direct Renewal" are selected, I can click "RFP Renewal" to switch to the Incumbent + RFP Renewal chart.
    • Similarly, selecting "New Business" would switch the view to charts involving "New Business" (e.g., New Business + Direct Renewal or New Business + RFP Renewal) while maintaining the toggle functionality between "Direct Renewal" and "RFP Renewal."

Challenge:

I’m looking for guidance on how to:

  1. Configure the buttons to ensure one button from each category is always active.
  2. Dynamically update the displayed chart based on the button selections.
  3. Maintain a seamless user experience while toggling between categories and charts.

I’ve created a sample dataset and Power BI file for reference

Any advice, examples, or best practices to achieve this functionality would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

@kapildua16  make the file(link) public

hi @elitesmitpatel , I have made it public

1. Use slicers, make them look like buttons and make them single select

2. That will be automatic

3. Why do they need to toggle in the first place?  Would Small Multiples be a better UX?

@lbendlin - Thanks for replying.
but how may i switch among 4 visual through slicer selection,
if possible may you share the pbix file

@lbendlin , Thanks for sharing the pbix file, but  client don't want this layout due to space issue, there are other visual on report page and i have to just use one line chart with functionality to change visual by button selection

I think it makes for a worse UX
