Think about using a hybrid model where the query for this particular visual is either done via an aggregated table. or especially optimized through indexes on the server side.

 

Any wait time above five seconds will lead users to abandon your report.

Thanks for the note - it got me rethinking the way the data was coming together. Orignally I was joining really large datasets together in Power Query. I removed that step and create a new table that uses the Union funtion. It went from over a minute to refresh the visual to about 2 seconds.
