Excuse my naivety but how do I get the April 2018 update do I have to download from somewhere or should it automatically update. Thanks

You can manually download April version at below link:
If you mean auto update power bi desktop, you can try to install power bi desktop from windows store.

Not sure I am questioning at right place!!! However, I was intrested in PBIX file which been shared in the April'2018 release video.
Is there any way I could get that??
