Applying Queries - Error Message

Hi all,

I've received an error message today that I cannot parse for meaning.

error message.PNG

The 5 tables listed are tables that have date/time data that has changed. The data export that I use is now in a different format for the way dates are handled (missing the T between Date and Time). The raw data is also now in unicode instead ASCII. I don't know if either of these things are related.

In a test file, I did use the date information to change UTC to local time, using the date/time offset which is the variable for which these format changes were made to accomodate. So, BI seems to be reading it just fine. It's just when I try to apply the changes, either to the test file or my original without the additional calculations (but with the new data format and offset info) that I receive the above error message.

I ran the diagnostics/trace the last time I received the error, not sure which to pull though in the resulting file.

Thanks!

Betsy

I think I've pretty much solved this one.

For anyone who has the same issue (which seems to be due to time changes in data/queries):

1. Backup data

2. Sign out of BI on desktop.

2. Clear cache.

3. Turn off time intelligence in options.

4. Refresh.

5. Turn on time intelligence

6. Refresh.

7. Check relationships. If you have date tables with relationships to changed date fields, these may have disappeared.

Hi Herbert,

@v-haibl-msft

I can't share the data publicly. However, I did find someone on the boards who was having the same issue. I guess this error can happen when the time fields are changed in a substantial way in the queries. My raw data was changed because of some time zone calculations, so the data format for time is slightly different.

The fix seems to be turning off time intelligence in the options, refreshing, turning on time intelligence, refreshing again. However, when I try the first step (turning off time intelligence) I get this error after the refresh runs for a few seconds and I can't proceed:

Unexpected Error: A model with pending changes cannot be synced with the server. Save or discard the changes and retry the operation.

I have tried saving, I'm not sure it is saving anything because the refresh doesn't run through.  Anything else I could try as additional/intervening steps. I did also have to change some of the fields in the queries (underscores were added to a bunch of them with the new format).

Thanks again,

Betsy

@Betsy

I cannot repro the same issue as you. Do you have a test PBIX file can be used to repro this issue? If yes, Could you please share the PBIX file to us through online file service like OneDrive?

Best Regards,
Herbert
