I had simple app that connected to an excel file from a OneDrive location and it refreshed on the Power BI service fine. Then I add another another table via a SQL server connection. After I did this...

    Anonymous you can surely do that. Is your sql server on-prem or in cloud? If it is on-prem, you need powerbi data gateway to get this going? Let me know if need more help.

Hi Anonymous,

 

Did you connect to the On-prem Sql server database?  Then as parry2k said you should install and configure on-prem gateway to refresh the dataset. For more details, please check the online document.
