Annotations in Power BI

Good

I would like to find a way to be able to record some annotations in my power bi file that will help me in the future to remember how I solved some problems during its creation.

In Query - Properties - Applied Steps all the steps I have taken are displayed. The problem is that to remember how I solved some problems I have to go through all the tables step by step. That is why I want to have some notes referring to a table, report or specific report.

I don't want these annotations to be seen when publishing, nor do I want to share them with anyone.

They may think it's silly, but it's very overwhelming to get into the files from time to time and have to remember what you did when you created it.

Is there a way? For now I'm writing things down in an Excel, but it's not the most optimal way.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards.

  • Hello Syndicate_Admin ,

you can add descriptions to columns and measures

you can also comment inside measures

in Power Query you can add description to the steps applied through right clicking on the step and then click properties

Also you can do the same to the tables

      Good

I knew the comments of the measures. Sometimes I use it when I'm learning some difficult function.

What I didn't know was how to post comments via the right click + Properties.

      This gives me life!

This will be the way to be able to comment in an orderly manner on any difficulty you have had or things to take into account. Thank goodness I asked.

Thank you very much for your help!

Note to add a comment to a particular step one has to do the step properties description update.
This will add the comment to that step within the code.  Then you are free to update the incode comment when direct editing the power query code (advanced editor {what a silly name :})
    You would think that adding comments prior to a step within power query code then that comment would auto display in the pbi pq display steps (circle ! icon) but no not always :}
