An error occurred while rendering the report (hierarchy slicer issue?)

Since the July 2017 update, I get this error in PBI Desktop on opening every report that uses the Hierarchy slicer.

Hitting Close will continue and it will work.

When I remove this slicer I do not get the error.

Also for some users the slicer does not allow to vertical scroll anymore if there is more options then visible in the box.

Hi wvanpeel,

Recently I'm facing the same issue, today I submmit a similar doubt here (https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/An-error-occurred-while-rendering-the-report-with-Hierarchy...

Looking in the app provider page, I could read some interesting information, It seems there is an issue:

Hi wvanpeel,

A new version of Hierarchy Slicer is available! I tested the 1.0.6.0 version and didn't face the issue (fixed - issue related to message An error occurred while rendering the report)!

Office Store link: https://store.office.com/en-us/app.aspx?assetid=WA104380820&sourcecorrid=fc55555f-b527-4bc0-bbb5-224...

So, if you update the Hierarchy Slicer to 1.0.6.0 version and face the issue again just clear cash:

1) Close all instances of Power BI Desktop

2) Open file explorer and navigate to the folder <system drive>:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\CEF\cache

  • replace <system drive> with your operating system hard disk partition
  • replace <user> with your user profile name, typically the alias you login to Windows with

3) Delete all contents of this folder

4) Restart Power BI Desktop

Regarding the 'unexpected error': I have submitted a new version for approval and after that it will be available asap.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

But you also say that you experience scrolling issues? Is this still valid for the new version?

Thanks, JP
