Alignment for row and column totals
Hi George-Stan ,
Thank you for raising this — it's a great observation and definitely something many Power BI users would find helpful. Currently, as you've noted, there's no built-in toggle or native support to align row and column totals independently within the matrix visual. Users often resort to DAX workarounds or custom formatting, which isn't ideal for something that should be straightforward.
Adding alignment options directly in the formatting pane for totals—just as we have for specific columns—would greatly enhance usability and visual consistency, especially in more complex reports. Hopefully, this suggestion gains traction, as it's a practical improvement that aligns with Power BI's ongoing efforts to streamline and empower report design.
In the meantime, as @pankajnamekar25 mentioned, some third-party visuals like Zebra BI Tables or the ones from Infragistics offer more control over total formatting and might serve as a viable alternative depending on your needs.

Hi George-Stan ,
Yep, you can control the alignment of row and column totals in Power BI—though it’s a bit hidden in the formatting pane.
Here’s how to do it:
- Select your visual (Matrix or Table).
- Go to the Format pane > Specific column.
- Choose the column you want to adjust.
- Toggle on Apply to total (and Apply to subtotal if needed).
- Then set the Alignment (left, center, or right) as you like.
This should align the totals the same way as your values. If it still looks off, try toggling Apply to header as well—it sometimes affects how the total row behaves.
Let me know if that works for you!
