Hi All,
I have a line chart that has data for four periods (February, August, October, and December). I want to include months April and June between February and August, but I don't have any data for them. I just want them there for visualization purposes. Would I just have to manually estimate the data for those additional months or is there another way I can do this?
Here's an example of the graph:
I want to put April and June between Feb and Aug as placeholders because Feb to Aug is a 6 month difference whereas Aug to Oct and Oct to Dec is a 2 month difference.
The relationship I have is a one-to-one between the project and date table.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Thanks for your answer I believe I'm headed in the right direction now.
I tried to use just month in a date heirarchy and it showed all the months like you said but my line chart wouldn't connect to my other months that don't have any values. Then I tried to use the automatic date heirarchy from the date table which did what I initially wanted it to do (other months were there as placeholders with the line chart moving through them), but only 10 of the months would display instead of the whole 12.
I know this is something very minor that I am missing. Have only been using this software for a week.
Here's an example of the new chart:
Do you have any visual level filters applied when you select the graph?
So I actually did have a filter applied. I had December unselected from the Date Filter. However, after selecting it, my graph now displays less months than previously.
New chart:
It's still showing the data from February through December, it's just the axis that is showing every other month to not have it be so cluttered. You can see on you're orange line where the value changes in October. You can play around with the x-axis options to get all the months displayed if you want!
Sounds good, thank you.
Also, do you know if there is a month format for the date data type (eg. mm)? From all of the options I can see the closest I have is (yyyy-mm). I would rather have just the months of the graph instead of both the months and the year.
Try clicking on the field in your x-axis and check the "Show items with no data".
It also looks like you're using a month name column, I'm pretty sure if you use a month within a date heirarchy it will automatically show all the months!
