Adding column in edit query mode

What is the difference between adding a column in edit query mode to the external edit query mode?

This article explains the pros and cons of using M and DAX. I am in interested in how different power BI treats these two. For example, a column created in edit query mode is treated as 'Column', whereas outside it is treated as 'Calculated Column'
