Adding Data To a Table via a Form - Possible?

Hi all,

I have a situation where we have a number of new campaigns coming from different departments which we want to track in PowerBI. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to create a form that each department would fill out that would then be added to a data table that I could then use as a lookup for data being generated from other sources.

An example: Campaign XYZ is being run by Department 123. Someone in this department would go into PowerBI and fill a form with a field for campaign name and for department ID - after submission, this information would then go into a data table in the columns campaignName and departmentID. When data about campaign XYZ then starts coming through I would could then see that Department 123 set this up and attribute the data to them.

I'm not sure this is possible and am thinking that I might need to do this maybe through a webform that adds to a database which is then pulled in PowerBI. However, if I could do everything in the one place it would make life much easier!

@Anonymous It depends on your requirements. If it's just the collection of a few numbers then the PowerApp integration might help you. If you are looking for serious planning functionality, you might want to have a look at: www.acterys.com This solution offers sophisticated write back and planning for Power BI and Excel. In addition to writing to a relational table the solution offers a powerful OLAP in-memory engine on top of SQL Server that caters for large scale multi user write back requirements that typically don't work with sufficient performance if you just write to a relational table.

Hi Martin - thanks for the reply. I ended up building a form in PowerApps which seems to do the trick. There are are a few limitations to it (i.e. anyone who wants to use it needs an organisation login) but for the most part it's worked out well.

@Anonymous - I am trying to build a form on Power BI, that will perform a write-back operation to my database. I know this can be accomplished using Power BI, but I have an issue when I try adding a new form - I'm not able to see a datasource linked to the form object. All I see is a gallery which is linked to the Power BI data source. Can you please help me understand how you built the form? Your help is much appreciated!

You can create data entry app usign powerapps (which is easy) then embed that in your PowerBI.
