Accessing Project Online Data from Desktop

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a link to Project Online to import data/tables.  I can successfully use the Power BI Service Content Pack but I'd like to build my own connection to fit into an existing Power BI Desktop model.

I found this article which says to use an OData connection but when I attempt this, I receive an error "We couldn't authenticate the credentials provided. Please try again".  When I reviewed the article it states, "Please note that the account you use to connect to the OData feed must have at least Portfolio Viewer access to the Project Web App site."

Having followed up with our administrators, I've been advised that access level provides edit access which I am not permitted to.  Does anyone know what the specific technical access requirements are and if a read-only access would work? If not, is there a work around?

Thanks

KC

Based on your advice I've found this article explaining you add the global permission “Access Project Server Reporting Service” to the role of the person requiring OData access. Furthermore, this article explains the permissions associated with this.

    Hi KCinMelbourne,

I'm not familiar with Project online so I don't know what is Portfolio Viewer access and I don't have test environment for Project Online.

For your scenario, you'd better have a consult with support of Project Online which may help you.

    Best Regards,

    Cherry
