I recently added an ARCGIS map to a PowerBI report. I signed into my ARCGis account throught PowerBI and added a map layer of interest, but when I toggle to a new report page and return to the ARCGIS map page my ARCGis layer is gone and I need to recreate the layer. again. I last used PowerBI about a year ago and did not have this problem. I know this issue has been noted in the past but throught that it might have been corrected by now. I cleared the cache in PowerBI and have the most updated version. Appreciate suggestions.

Hi @dhurwitz ,
Thanks for the update. Saving ArcGIS map layers requires a Creator license and role. You would need the appropriate license to perform this action. If possible, you can check with your admin to upgrade your role or license.

Thanks for your reply. I think the issue for me is that I do not have a creator user role and type license, which enables saving ARCGIS map layers. Thanks.

ArcGIS layers in Power BI aren’t fully saved in the .pbix — they reset when you switch pages.
Fix / Workarounds:
Save the layer to ArcGIS Online and reload from My Content.
Use bookmarks to preserve map state.
Check if your org license changed (some features now need ArcGIS Plus).
For stability → use Azure Maps or Shape Map instead.
👉 Best bet: save layers in ArcGIS Online to avoid recreating.
