AI Functions error for text analytics
Hi, I was able to use this a few weeks ago now I am getting this error in desktop.
Any ideas how I can resolved this?
DataSource.Error: An error happened while reading data from the provider: '{"error":{"code":"PowerBINotAuthorizedException","pbi.error":{"code":"PowerBINotAuthorizedException","parameters":{},"details":[],"exceptionCulprit":1}}}'
Details:
DataSourceKind=AIFunctions
DataSourcePath=AIFunctions
DataSourceKind.2=AdoDotNet
DataSourcePath.2=AI.Provider/
Hi jemmaa ,
It typically points to an authorization issue with the AI Functions connector in Power BI Desktop. Since you've already confirmed that your Power BI Pro license is active, you've reinstalled Power BI, and have cleared and re-entered credentials, the next likely cause is that the AI workload might no longer be enabled in your tenant.Even though you're working in Power BI Desktop and not yet connected to a workspace, AI features like text analytics still depend on tenant-level settings. To move forward, double-check with your Power BI administrator to ensure the AI workload is enabled in your tenant or Premium capacity settings.
Also, revisit Transform Data > Data Source Settings in Desktop, clear any cached credentials for "AIFunctions", and sign in again. If you're using a Premium workspace, ensure the AI workload is turned on in the Capacity settings in the Power BI Admin Portal.

Hi jemmaa ,
The error message indicates a PowerBINotAuthorizedException, which means the AI Functions connector is being blocked due to authorization issues. This can happen if:
- Your Power BI license or permissions have changed.
- The AI workload is no longer enabled in your tenant.
- The data source credentials need to be re-entered or updated.
To resolve it:
- Go to Power BI Desktop > Transform Data > Data source settings.
- Find the AI Functions source and clear permissions.
- Reconnect and sign in again with the correct credentials.
- Ensure your Power BI Pro or Premium license is active.
- If using a Premium workspace, verify that AI workload is enabled in the capacity settings.
If the issue persists, contact your Power BI administrator to check tenant-level settings.

Hi burak thanks for your reply
I have followed the below steps:
- I have re-installed powerBI
- I have a pro license
- Using this in desktop
- Have cleared permissions and re-entered the credentials
- PowerBI pro license is active
As this is happening in desktop currently this wont be connected to the workspaces will it yet?
If so how do I do this point?
- The AI workload is no longer enabled in your tenant.

Thanks for the update. Since you're using Power BI Desktop and not yet connected to a workspace, the AI workload setting would apply only once the report is published to a Premium workspace. To proceed:
- Try publishing your report to a Premium workspace (if available).
- Then, ask your Power BI admin to verify that the AI workload is enabled in the capacity settings of that workspace.
If you're not using Premium, AI features may be limited or unavailable. In that case, consider switching to a supported method or checking if your tenant has access to AI capabilities.

In addition this just suddenly stopped working. I have used the AI functions a few weeks ago in desktop and this was fine. But isn't working now.

Hi @,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
Your “No premium capacities are available” error means you don’t have access to Premium features needed for these AI functions. To use AI Functions without errors, you must publish your report/dataset to a Premium workspace with AI workloads enabled.
If this helped, please mark the response as the accepted solution and give it a thumbs-up so others can benefit too.Best regards,

Thanks for your reply. The workspace is already set to premium and AI functions are already enabled. This was working 4 weeks ago and has suddenly stopped.
