Hi all,
is it correct (and where can I find documentation) that the AI features are not availbale to anyone on a data set as soon as I setup row level security? If yes, this is really worth an idea (Some know of an existing one?) because this was one of the features why we decided on Power BI.
Thanks
Daniel
Solved! Go to Solution.
Please kindly note the limitation:
Insights doesn't work with DirectQuery, streaming, and PUSH datasets; it only works with data uploaded to Power BI.
Row-level security (RLS) isn't supported by quick insights, even in import mode.
The failure of this feature will also result in the failure of the analyze feature.

Thanks @V-lianl-msft ,
that is a pitty. Do you know of any idea I could push or any alternative? (Mutiple Datasets is no option, sorry 🙂 )
Thanks
Daniel
Hi @aj1973 ,
thanks for your answer. What I meant is rather this feature:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/end-user-analyze-visuals
Sorry for that. It used to work but after setting the RLS it no longer does.
And we have Premium per User atm.
Can you confirm that?
Thanks
Daniel
Hi @daamruth
Ok AI is not RLS.
RLS is applied for Power Bi Users, the feature you are talking about is for Power Bi Consumers
Now
If you have a PPU license then you are not a Power bi consumer. If the Consumer has a free License then he can't see the report with RLS implemented.
Hoep it is clear and confirmed.

Hi Amine,
perhaps I wasn't clear on my topic. Let me try to explain:
I have a Data Model without RLS. Inside of that the "Analyze"-function work properly. When I click on a timeline I can choose "Analyze" --> "Explain increase".
I then added RLS to the model. Since then the option is no longer available - on the exactly same visual.
Is that a bug?
Thanks
Daniel
There is no bug,
Do your users that you have added them to the RLS have a Pro license?

I am testing with myself: Power BI Premium per User license.
And that's exactly what I have been explaining to you. A PPU can not use Analyze feature. Only a free user can.
Did you read and analyze the 2 images i sent you previously?

Hi @aj1973 ,
thanks for your answer. This makes no sense to me. You want to say that people with pro and premium licenses have less features than a user with a free version (on premium capacity)?!
Why was it availbale before i set the RLS?
I rather think it is because of Power BI not supporting it when RLS is enabled. Same applies to Quick Insights: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Quick-Insights-greyed-out/m-p/1466208 and also found here:
Thanks for your help though.
Once again the features look great until you really try to make use of them.
Cheers
Daniel
Hi @daamruth
Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
Connect to AI Insights in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
The only limitation I see implementing RLS is when connecting with DQ mode. AI
Know though, you need Premium license to use AI in Power bi.
