lakehouse and warehouse data destination errors

In Gen2 dataflows, I am trying to write my data to a destination; however, I encounter a similar error for both the warehouse and lakehouse. Please help.

My source utilises a VNET data gateway and I am susccessfully able to preview data, the issues comes when determining the destination of the data and even when creating connections that use the VNET data gateway it fails with the same errors. Additionally I am also a guest user in the tenant

Hi @Sam_ ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @nilendraFabric  for the prompt response.

  • Since your source uses a VNET data gateway, the issue may be related to the gateway configuration itself. Even though you can preview the data, the connection to the destination could be facing network or permission issues.
  • Ensure that the VNET data gateway is configured correctly for both source and destination. There could be restrictions related to routing, firewalls, or network security groups that prevent the data from being properly transferred to the destination.
  • Test if the gateway is properly connected to both your source and destination. Sometimes, connection errors or misconfigurations cause intermittent issues when trying to write data.
  • Ensure that the gateway has the necessary outbound access to Power BI and the destination data store (Warehouse or Lakehouse).
  • As you're a guest user in the tenant, there could be permission issues related to dataflows and access to the destination. Guest users may have limited access or lack the necessary privileges to perform certain actions, especially if you're trying to write data to shared resources like a data warehouse or lakehouse.
  • Ensure that you have the correct permissions (read/write) for the destination. Specifically, make sure that your guest account has proper access to the data storage location (e.g., the warehouse or lakehouse).
  • If you are working with a workspace or a shared resource, confirm that you’re assigned the necessary roles (such as Contributor or Admin) in the resource you are trying to write to.
  • The error mentioning "Downstream service call to url 'https://api.powerbi.com/metadata/cluster'" suggests an authentication or session issue with Power BI or the connected services.Try refreshing the credentials for the VNET data gateway and the destination. It’s possible that the authentication token or session expired or was invalidated.

If this post helps, then please consider Accepting as solution to help the other members find it more quickly, don't forget to give a "Kudos" – I’d truly appreciate it!

Thank you!!

Hi @Sam_

This error typically indicates a problem with how your dataflow or service is communicating with the Power BI backend, specifically with the cluster that manages your tenant’s metadata

Check for recent changes: If you recently updated, deleted, or recreated tables or datasets, the metadata may not have refreshed properly. Rebuilding the destination (Lakehouse or Warehouse) and re-running the dataflow can help.
• Wait after updates: Some users report that waiting a few minutes after updating a Dataflow Gen2 before publishing can prevent certain metadata errors.
• Review permissions: Make sure you have the necessary permissions on both the source and destination
