Unable to Add Data Destination in Dataflow Gen 2

Hello,

I have a dataflow gen2 artifact in one of our workspaces. This artifact includes 11 queries. For some queries, I have added data destinations without any issues. For some others within the same artifact, I was not able to do so because the adding icon (+) is unclickable as shown in the pic below. Any reason why is that and how to solve it?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for using Microsoft Fabric Community.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, you cannot directly select a data destination when the entity type is loading (I can see the same in the image that you have provided) in the query settings for Dataflow Gen2 in Fabric. This is because the loading process is crucial for schema inference and data validation, and the data destination needs to be defined later, after the schema is known.

By following the below steps, you can use to achieve your desired outcome:

  1. Wait for the entity type to fully load.
  2. Once the entity type is fully loaded, you will see the "Output destination" button become available in the Query settings pane.
  3. Click on the button and select the desired data destination for your query.

I hope this helps. If the issue stills persists or if you have any further questions please do let us know. Glad to help.

Thanks

'Enable Staging' property is ticked already, but the issue exists.

Even after waiting for the entity to load, the "Add Data Destination" option never appears on my ribbon. Could there be a prior configuration that I am missing? Screenshot 2024-03-21 230309.png

It looks like you are using gen1 dataflows, which don't support data destinations.
