Migration from Azure synapse to Fabric

I am currently using Azure synapse analytics and mapping dataflows. I am looking at the possibility of upgrading to Microsoft Fabric. However, we spent a lot of time creating all dataflow in synapse analytics and it would be unfortunate to start from the ground up. We heard that Microsoft is looking at migration paths. In the mean time, I would like to know if there is a way to export all the dataflows from synapse analytics to Fabric.

Thank you in advance

We will provide built-in mechanisms to "mount" your existing pipelines from ADF and Synapse into Fabric workspaces as a way to run your pipelines with data flows as-is. Our longer-term roadmap includes "upgrade" paths to turn those ADF & Synapse pipelines into Fabric native pipelines. The ADF & Synapse data flows can be converted into Fabric Dataflows or Spark jobs. We have utilities that convert into Spark jobs and you can export the data flows definitions in your factories and workspaces using APIs.

Hi @YanisBouhadouf ,

This is a very common concern for teams moving from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, especially when there’s a significant investment in mapping dataflows. Today, Fabric doesn’t provide a native way to directly export or import Synapse dataflows, which often leads teams to assume they must start from scratch.

That said, this doesn’t have to be a ground-up rebuild. We’ve built a solution specifically to accelerate Synapse/ADF dataflow and pipeline migration to Fabric, helping teams preserve existing logic and drastically reduce rework during the transition.

If you’re evaluating Fabric and want to avoid losing the effort already invested in Synapse, I’d strongly recommend a quick demo to see how this can be handled more efficiently.

@makromer - Any update on this, we also have a client who would really like to get off of Synapce and onto Fabric for their data transformation work.

Hi @makromer, can you provide any official information on this mechanism or the upgrade path? We are trying to plan a solution for a large client and we need to know if this is viable.

Thank you

Hi @makromer

When you say "The ADF & Synapse data flows can be converted into Fabric Dataflows or Spark jobs.", do you mean as of today OR it is planned in the future. If it is possible to export synapse data flows into fabric data flows as of today, could you provide me some guidelines as to how this is achievable? (for example: how can we convert into a spark job)

Thank you again for your time!
