missing data types Fabric SQL DB and datawarehouse

Fabric SQl database is case sesitive so I can not use it.  Data warehouse insesitive can be created using Rest API but missing so many things.   you can no loger define datretine format, text format, smalldatetime, nvarchar

IDENTITY can not be defined so.  I am going to check functions.  If that is like problem above,  then I do not know why MS deployed  FABRIC

Hi @vasalari,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Here’s some clarification:

  • Case Sensitivity: Fabric SQL Database is case-sensitive. If you need case-insensitive behaviour, we recommend using Fabric Data Warehouse.
  • Data types like datetime, smalldatetime, nvarchar, etc., are currently limited in Fabric Data Warehouse. This is known, and improvements are in progress.
  • Identity columns not yet supported. You can use sequences or generate IDs externally as a workaround.
  • Most T-SQL functions work in Data Warehouse. Test specific ones; use Spark SQL or Azure SQL Database for unsupported cases.

Please refer to the Official Documentation: Data Types in Fabric Data Warehouse - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn.

We understand these limitations may affect your experience. Fabric is still evolving, and your feedback helps guide improvements. If you'd like to submit a feature request, please do so on the Fabric Ideas Forum: Fabric Ideas - Microsoft Fabric Community Suggestions with more upvotes are reviewed by the product team and may be included in future updates.
