Migrating Snowflake data to Fabric Datawarehouse

Hi Team,

I would like to migrate around 15TB of SQL Tables data from the Snowflake to Fabric. Its one time activity. I have below questions. Could you please help me with below questions?

  1. We have 2 options to migrate . What is the best option?
    • Option1:Mirroring the warehouse , once mirrored then deleting it and then copying the data to finalwarehouse for write access.
    • Option2: using Data factory copy activity.
  2.  Do we need to use data gateway in my connection for migrating 15TB of data, my snowflake is accessible for Fabric. do we still need Data gateway? When should we go for Data gateway?

Thanks,

Hi @NagaRK ,

Option 1 is great for near real-time reporting use cases, not bulk loads.

Option 2 (Data Factory) is the right tool for large, one-time migrations like yours.

Do You Need a Data Gateway?

Answer:
If your Snowflake instance is accessible over the public internet (i.e., Fabric can reach it directly), you do NOT need a data gateway.

You DON'T need a gateway if:

  • Your Snowflake endpoint is public (like xyz.snowflakecomputing.com)
  • You can connect to it from within Microsoft Fabric without any VPN or firewall restrictions

You DO need a gateway if:
