Microsoft Fabric - Warehouse Shortcuts

Hi,

I am creating the multiple Warehouses and each Warehouse has its own Workspace due to security reasons. So thought to share the data between Warehouses using the Shortcuts feature in Fabric.

But when I explored the tool, Shortcut option is available only in Lakehouse. So, we cant create the Shortcuts in Warehouse. Is this Fabric limitation or Am I missing anything ?

Consider the case, we have to build the report top of multiple tables which are present in different Warehouses. So how we can achive this ?

Regards,

Sathish Kumar

Hi @Sathish133
Thanks for using Fabric Community.
Shortcuts in Microsoft OneLake allow you to unify your data across domains, clouds, and accounts by creating a single virtual data lake for your entire enterprise. They provide a way to reference data within existing Fabric items, including lakehousesKusto Query Language (KQL) databases, and Data warehouses

In Microsoft Fabric, you can create shortcuts only in Lakehouses and KQL databases. Currently, the option to create shortcuts directly from a Warehouse is not available.

Sharing Data Between Warehouses:
To build reports across multiple tables in different warehouses, consider the following steps:
Lakehouse Shortcut:

  • Create a lakehouse (if not already done).
  • Create a shortcut in the lakehouse pointing to the desired warehouse tables.
  • This method works whether the warehouse and lakehouse belong to the same workspace or different workspaces.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

@Anonymous ,

Thanks for the confirmation as there is no shortcut feature in Warehouse and your alternate solution.
