This week's WorkoutWednesday challenge asked us to rethink how we present line charts and how a single bold decision can reshape a viewer’s focus.
For my submission, I highlighted the United Kingdom in color while muting the other four European countries. The goal was to tell a story of divergence over time in reported happiness—from the UK’s steady climb, to Germany’s sharp rise, and Italy’s steep decline post-2008.
What made this challenge especially insightful was exploring:
Visual hierarchy using muted tones and contrast
How line charts can act as storytelling devices
The impact of small touches—like tooltips and layout—to support interpretation
📊 Tools used: Stacked line chart, tooltips, card overlays, custom theme
🧠 Key takeaway: Sometimes, showing less helps reveal more.
