I was inspired by an awesome article by Dieuwertje van Dijk on Streamgraphs (check it out here: A deep dive into... stream graphs) and decided to build my own Streamgraph using only Power BIโs native visual elements.
For this Challenge, I downloaded the yearly 1000 most popular baby names text files (144 in total) from the U.S. Social Security Administration (find it here: Popular Baby Names) to show how the most popular baby names have evolved, by generation.

Streamgraphs are a fun and effective way to see changes over time, especially when dealing with multiple categories. They make it easy to spot trends and shifts in the data.
๐ช๐ต๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐น๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐ถ๐?
Ideal for tracking changes in categories over time (think market trends or popular names).
Perfect for showing how data flows and changes dynamically.
๐ช๐ต๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ผ ๐๐ธ๐ถ๐ฝ ๐ถ๐?
Not great for comparing exact values.
It can get messy with too many categories or data points.
I also added an option to switch to a B๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ for comparison and included tooltips for extra interactivity and insights.
๐ก๐ผ๐๐ฒ: This demo is just for educational purposes, showcasing Power BIโs native capabilities.
