All successful companies keep track of the most essential KPIs like revenues, gross profit and gross margin. Monitoring them seems like the most natural and easy process that any company needs to incorporate, but as always – the devil is in the details.
How does the operational process behind preparation of such business analyses look like in practice?
Usually such analytical efforts consume way too many internal resources and time. Often data has to be extracted from many different data sources, someone has to put it all together, prepare the final outputs in Excel and send it to all concerned parties. On top of that, such fragmentation causes significant inflexibilities regarding introduction of new measures, breakdowns or amendments in the methodology.
In the end, companies frequently do not track those crucial KPIs on a daily basis and withhold their analytical appetite, as keeping up ever changing business needs would flood the organization with immense operational workload.
