A data story centered around US law enforcement caused deaths by firearms broken down by race and age and correlated with arrest statistics and population data.

US Law Enforcement Caused Deaths by Firearms data comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (1999-2014)

 

Crime statistics are from the FBI Uniform Crime Reports. (1999-2014)

 

Population statistics are based on 2010 US Census Bureau data.

Page 1

  • Deaths per year jumped up significantly in 2011 and have remained at this new, elevated level since
  • Blacks account for a greater percentage of deaths then their percent of the population
  • American Indians and Alaskan Natives account for a greater percentage of deaths than their percent of the population
  • Asians and Pacific Islanders account for a lesser percentage of deaths than their percent of the population

  • For blacks and whites, arrest rates display a high level of correlation with mortality rates
  • American Indians, Alaskan Natives, Asians and Pacific Islanders account for a greater percentage of deaths than their percent of arrests

On the first page the Race % of Population tiles are not responding to cross-filtering, on the 2nd page the Race % of Arrests is not responding to cross-filtering. I downloaded the pbix but can't tell why it is not working.
