In this report, we delve into Titanic Passenger Diagnostics, envisioning it as an interactive exhibit in a museum. Our creative approach focuses on navigation, report layouts (to prevent content overload), and general UX practices. The goal? To evoke the nostalgic charm of the late Victorian / early Edwardian era.
To achieve this, we carefully crafted a background tone, subtly adding noise for authenticity. This serves as the canvas over which we layer our graphics. Our positioning of visuals involved use of a background grid image (generated in Photoshop) apply a consistent layout.
Colour Palette Inspired by the White Star Line: We intentionally selected colours reminiscent of the White Star Line, the company that built the Titanic. These hues evoke the elegance and history associated with this iconic vessel. The classic combination of navy blue and white dominates our design, paying homage to the ship’s grandeur.
Red: A Solemn Reminder: Exclusively using red to highlight data related to those who perished adds a poignant touch. Each red element represents a life lost—a stark reminder of the tragedy that unfolded on that fateful night.
Within this museum-inspired context, we seamlessly integrate Power BI charts and data stories. First, we explore the demographics of the passengers: where they boarded, the age and gender profiles, and whether they had purchased a First, Second, or Third Class ticket. Then, we highlight survival status across these same dimension. Finally, we introduce the concept of “survival rate” to highlight some of the potential factors the influenced who survived.
Our objective is to remind museum visitors, who navigate through this interactive report, that behind every data point lies a story. The Titanic isn’t just a shipwreck; it’s a microcosm of humanity. So, click, scroll, and honour those lost at sea. Their echoes reverberate through time, reminding us that history isn’t static—it’s alive and waiting to be explored.
